Hot August Days - Tourney Recap
Hot-August-Days_2010_thumb
LA City Fire "Red" Hoses down the Competition in Division I and "Locked & Loaded" takes aim and Guns down the rest to capture the Division II title.

The annual Guns & Hoses "Hot August Days" tournament was held at Mile Square Park in Fountain Valley with the usual picture perfect softball weather conditions. The tourney was packed with action, competition, camaraderie and good times.

The summer atmosphere was lively with plenty of spectators in attendance, WORTH product flying off the tables and DJ Dave rockin the tunes. There was a well balanced mix of Police, Fire and Military teams to offer a variety of competition for all caliber teams battling on the fields. We even had another Border Patrol team travel all the way from El Centro for a piece of the action!

Division I was a formidable collection of teams with many past G & H champions making the upper brackets some of the toughest ever seen in G & H competition. Powerhouse teams like "Gov't Issue" and "OC Hitmen" were definitely favored to take it all, but this is softball, and anything can happen, and usually does.

LA City Fire "Red" struggled in pool play going 0 and 2, but "showed up" and showed up big when it mattered. Their never say die attitude carried them all the way to the Championship title on this day.

Team "Locked & Loaded" epitomizes the fact that continual tournament play eventually leads to championships. They have struggled and paid their dues month in and month out, but were rewarded with the "Hot August Days" Division II Championship. In a very tight final game against "Riverside Heat" the combo team from LA County slipped past the "Heat" 21-19.

Guns & Hoses would like to once again congratulate LA City Fire "Red" and "Locked & Loaded" for their impressive championship victories. We would also like to extend a very warm and sincere thank you to everyone who came out to support the event. We continue to host the G & H tournaments because of your appreciation and enthusiasm for Guns & Hoses Tournaments.

With only 3 tournaments remaining in the Guns & Hoses 2010 season, the year long points chase is still up for grabs. The next tourney will be the annual "9-11 Memorial" tournament which will actually be held on Saturday, September 11th at the Tustin Sports Complex in Orange County. We hope to see you there! – G & H

Guns & Hoses Softball held the annual "Summer Showdown" on July 17th 2010. Summer SlugFest Tourney Recap

CYA Lockdown & Edwards Air Force Base both claim championships in Surf City

june_2010_tourney_02_thmb

The annual Guns & Hoses Huntington Beach Surf City Slugfest tournament was held this past weekend at the HB Sports Complex under picture perfect coastal softball weather. This tournament had to be capped due to a limit of only 4 fields, leaving 18 teams comprised of Police, Fireman, Military and Corrections to battle it out for Surf City supremacy.

Mark “Archie” Archibald was on hand to help Guns & Hoses players elevate their games with a full arsenal of WORTH weaponry, while Christine the sports massage technician was helping players work out their softball war wounds and DJ Dave bumped the jams all day long.

The competition was tight and the camaraderie was over flowing as usual. As always, big thanks goes out to all the teams that participated in this year’s Surf City Slugfest and a big congratulations to CYA “Lockdown” and Edwards AFB “Legion” for claiming championships in each of their divisions.

The season long “Points Chase” is still up for grabs with 5 tournaments remaining in the G & H 2010 season. The season long points champs will earn top shelf WORTH team bats. See the new rankings to see where your team is in the standings.

Drinko De Mayo 2010 Recap

30 Teams Duel for Drinko De Mayo Domination

The annual Guns and Hoses “Drinko De Mayo” tournament always proves to be packed with a diversity of different agency teams, equal competition and great camaraderie. This year's tournament did not disappoint with a solid mix of 30 Police, Fire and Military teams in attendance. The battles were fought under a cool marine layer on all 7 fields at the Huntington Beach Sports Complex. This tourney saw many new teams as well as many of the usual suspects. There was also an equal balance of upper and lower division teams with 15 teams in each division resulting in constant and continuous action all day long.

“Archie” from WORTH Sports was on hand promoting all of the WORTH softball weapons of choice to the public safety ballers in attendance. Archie is probably going to need a flat bed truck loaded with Worth product to meet the ravenous demands of the Guns & Hoses teams next time. Thanks again to all the players and teams who supported Archie, Worth and all of their efforts in helping enhance the Guns & Hoses tournament experience.

The Division I championship match up game between Riverside Sheriff’s “Black” and CYA "Lockdown” was a solid evenly matched battle. The thick marine layer never did allow the sun to pop out from behind the clouds, so as early evening progressed the ball was getting difficult to see. With a very tight game and 5 innings completed, both teams decided to end it as Co-Champions.  Division II saw a classic Guns vs Hoses battle between CHP “Pound Da Gap” and LA Fire “Attack”. In the end the Chippies edged out the solid Fire team on this day. For their hard fought victory the CHP team gets to move up to Division I.

Being the “Drinko De Mayo” event, the Division Champions were awarded enough Jose Cuervo and Mexican beer to host their own team fiesta. Muchas gracias to all the players and teams for being part of the "Drinko De Mayo" tournament and making this tournament one of the most fun and enjoyable to play and host this season. We look forward to seeing everybody at the annual “Surf City Slugfest” on Saturday June 12th at the Huntington Beach Sports Complex. We only have 4 fields for this tourney so this event will definitely be capped at the first “20” teams to enter.

Spring Shootout - Recap

Spring_Shootout_Image_4_10
OC Hitmen Hit the Target for Spring Shootout Supremacy

The annual Guns & Hoses “Spring Shootout” was Round 2 of 9 of the 2010 tournament series. 10 teams battled it out at Mile Square Park in Fountain Valley for the Spring Shootout title. Team attendance was lower than usual due to a multitude of competing tourneys in the area but the competition was fierce, the camaraderie solid and the good times plentiful.

The caliber of the teams warranted a single pool of competition. With 4 fields available, many teams were stoked to hear they would be getting some additional stick time with an extra round robin game. Each team was given a vote and the majority of teams for this tourney wanted a plate/mat strike zone. We are still exploring the option of using the “strike zone” vs. the “plate/mat”, but ultimately it will be decided by what “you” the players want.

Because there was only one Division, all teams earned Division I points toward the overall points chase and a chance at claiming the year end WORTH Bat prize packages. Next month is “Drinko De Mayo”, one of our biggest and most fun tournaments of the season. The tournament is Sunday, May 16th and will be played at the Huntington Beach Sports Complex, where we will have all 7 fields.

Team records during pool play were as follows:

Pool A
3-0    OC Sheriff "Hitmen"
2-1    Hawthorne PD "Lawdogs"
0-3    Riverside County "Heat"
Pool B
3-0   CHP "Pound Da Gap"
1-2   OC "Beach Bums" PD Combo
0-3   "Locked & Loaded" PD Combo
Pool C
3-0   LAPD "Mooseknuckles"
2-1   Santa Fe Springs CHP
1-2    Costa Mesa PD
0-3   Fullerton Fire
