2019 April Foolz Tourney Recap

The annual “April Foolz” Tournament was Hot with Action and Cool with weather!

The 2019 Guns & Hoses Softball “April Foolz” Tournament was filled with good times on and off the field. The during tourney, and after tourney party spot was none other than Lampost Pizza. The ladies of Lampost were on site to pass out discount flyers for food and beverages for Lampost. Many of the players made their way over to Lampost for great food and spirits. As the kids played in the game room, teams enjoyed all the sports showcased on all the big screens. Big shout out to Johnny and Kurt and the lovely ladies of Lampost Pizza! The weather was just about perfect, with the sun in the sky and a calm cool coastal breeze blowing off the Pacific as the ballers brought forth their best on the fields!

Although there were a limited amount of teams this month, the teams that did round up the 10 bodies needed, all received extra pool play games, to assist with shaking off the dust from the off season. We turned and burned through the pool play games, and on to the single elimination seeded/bracketed portion of the tournament. There were many close games, and then there were the games that despite the sun in the sky, some hitting went ice cold. All teams that participated were pretty evenly matched, so it was anyone’s tournament to win! All teams qualified for the playoffs.

The usual G & H vibe was alive and thumping, both on and off the field, with pumping tunes from DJ “Large Jockstrap J”, and many of the fans, families, players, wives, and girlfriends were caught movin and shakin to the tunes bumpin over the big speakers.

Teams were locked in heated competition and had their eyes on the prize, which consisted of Custom Team Dri-fit uniform jerseys and a team Pizza party courtesy of Lampost Pizza.

Once pool play ended, all teams moved on to the single elimination brackets portion of the tournament. No matter what your pool play record was coming into the brackets, it was now a “win or go to Lampost Pizza for Beer” scenario.

This tournament was truly very evenly matched and any team could have gone all the way. So consistency was the key to advancing each round. As previously mentioned, there were many close games with tight scores that literally came down to one good or bad inning that decided the majority of the games.

After all the pool play battles and early bracket play, the two teams remaining in the hunt for the Championship were a combo of Orange County LEO’s fighting under the team name of “Pickles” and another combo group going as “Team 47”.

The Championship game started off as a back and forth boat race in the early innings, before Team 47 opened up a lead with several plated runs in the final two innings that the Pickles simply could not match. There was certainly no “snap” or “crispness” in the batting of the Pickles, leaving a final count of 17-8.

Team 47 is officially crowned as the 2019 April Foolz Champions! Congratulations to Team 47 and all their families and fans for being victorious on this day.

For making the Finals, both Team 47 and Pickles enjoyed Free Pizza courtesy of the Tournament host Lampost Pizza. Team 47 will also be receiving a full set of custom Team Dri-fit Jerseys as the other part of the prize package.

We at Guns & Hoses Softball would once again like to extend a sincere thank you for all the teams, players, and fans that participated in the 2019 “April Foolz” event. We look forward to seeing everyone back again during the course of the 2019 season.

The next tournament will be the annual “Drinko De Mayo” Tournament to be held at the Huntington Beach Sportsplex on of course May 5th 2019. We hope to see you there!
