Military teams collide in championship battle at Hot August Days tourney

After our annual "away" tourney at the Big League Dreams in Palm Springs in July, G & H returned back home to the cooler OC venues. This year's Hot August Days tourney took place at the Tustin Sports Park where the only thing hotter than the weather was the sizzling softball action on the fields.

We had a limited field of only 10 teams due to the Police & Fire Games in Las Vegas as well as a few other smaller competing tourneys but there was still plenty of good times and points up for grabs in the season long points chase for a team set of Worth bats.

This years Hot August Day tourney was filled with the usual epic battles, close scores, great camaraderie and unpredictable upsets. The pool play went something like this...

POOL PLAY / ROUND ROBIN

POOL A
Edwards AFB Rattlers 2-0
Unlawful Assembly 1-1
Navy Milspec 1-1
USMC Camp Pendleton 0-2

POOL B
OC Enforcers 2-0
LASD MCJ Red 1-1
South LA CHP Yardawgs 0-2

POOL C
USBP Odd Squad 2-0
LA Probation SEO 1-1
DMV / DOI Sting 0-2

SEMI FINAL GAMES

Field #3 saw a military match up between Edwards AFB Rattlers and USMC Camp Pendleton. Edwards defeated Pendleton in earlier pool play so the Marines were looking to serve up a healthy dose of revenge. Of course the Rattlers had other plans and were poised and ready to strike with venom and advance into the finals. In a nail bitter of a game, the boys from Pendleton avenged their defeat and advanced into the finals with an 8-7 victory over the boys from Edwards.

Field #1 saw Unlawful Assembly go head to head with the mighty Mil Spec from San Diego. Unlawful Assembly defeated Mil Spec in their previous pool play round but Mil Spec is notoriously known as getting into the swing of things during playoff rounds. Mil Spec got swinging at the plate while defending the field preventing the Unlawful from assembling enough runs. When the game ended it was Mil Spec taking the victory with a final score of 19-8.
